Hingis, Clijsters to face off in quarterfinals

01/22/2007 - Melbourne, Australia (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Martina Hingis of Switzerland and Kim Clijsters of Belgium both won fourth-round matchups Monday to set up their second straight quarterfinal competition in the Australian Open.

Hingis overcame an early challenge from China's Na Li, who beat ninth-seeded Russian Dinara Safina, 6-2, 6-2, in a third-round match that was postponed by rain Saturday, to pull it out 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Clijsters, who is in her final season on the tour, held off No. 15 Daniela Hantuchova 6-1, 7-5. Clijsters ended Hingis' first attempt at a major after three seasons in retirement, winning 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, in the quarterfinals last year.

Hingis has made it to the quarterfinals in each of her last nine trips to Melbourne Park, two of which have come since her retirement.

No. 12 Anna Chakvetadze also advanced, upending No. 8 Patty Schnyder, 6-4, 6-1.

Defending champion and second-seeded Amelie Mauresmo of France was ousted from the Australian Open Sunday, losing in the fourth round in straight sets to Lucie Safarova.
